Ellenbrook Christian College: Nurturing Excellence, Fostering Community, and Celebrating 20 Years of Educational Dedication

At Ellenbrook Christian College, their primary aim is to empower their students by offering them a platform to develop their unique talents, embrace a quest for excellence, and cultivate a lifelong love for learning. Their ultimate goal is to prepare these future leaders to serve and make meaningful contributions to society. Anchored in a graceful Christian environment, they lay the foundation for a strong sense of community while embracing a holistic educational philosophy that transcends traditional boundaries.

Within their Christian environment, they instill in their students the values of humility, integrity, and purpose. This nurturing atmosphere forms the backdrop for their community’s growth and their students’ transformation into individuals who embody the principles of being “Salt and Light” in the world. Their approach to personalized learning sparks a global awareness and a spirit of compassion in their students, setting them on a path guided by these core principles.

Ellenbrook Christian College embarked on its educational journey in the year 2001, marking a significant milestone as the first SCEA (Swan Christian Education Association) school to open without a majority of Christian families among its initial student body. The college’s mission was clear: to extend its educational offerings to the broader community and serve as a beacon of knowledge and values. This endeavor was notably supported by the pioneering efforts of Ms. Doreen Smith and founding Principal Mr. Jack Joyce, who diligently served from 2001 to 2004.

SCEA initiated Ellenbrook Christian College as a missional project with a distinct commitment to cater to all members of the local suburbs, extending a warm welcome to individuals of all faiths and denominations. The institution was driven by a missional focus and a deep desire to spread God’s word to a broader audience within the community. This guiding principle influenced every strategic decision made by the college during its formative years.

In 2004, Mr. Greg Wells assumed the role of Principal, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained from serving as Principal in several other SCEA schools since 1984. Mr. Wells left an indelible mark on the college during his tenure, overseeing a remarkable increase in student enrollment.

In 2014, Mr. Steven Coote was appointed as Principal, and the college introduced a Pre-Kindergarten program, further expanding its offerings to meet the evolving needs of its community.

The year 2016 witnessed the arrival of Mr. Justin Krause as Principal, followed by Mr. Mike Pitman in 2019. Mr. Pitman, with his extensive background in education and leadership roles across SCEA and other institutions, brought a wealth of experience to Ellenbrook Christian College. His journey included serving as Principal at Kalamunda Christian School and the Junior School of Midland Christian School (now Swan Christian College). Before joining Ellenbrook Christian College, Mr. Pitman spent a decade in various leadership roles at The Scots College in Sydney before returning to SCEA in 2018.

In 2021, a significant milestone was reached as Ellenbrook Christian College celebrated 20 years of Christian schooling. This momentous occasion was marked by a celebratory evening that brought together staff and students, past and present, to reflect on the college’s journey and the positive impact it has had on the community.

The staff at Ellenbrook Christian College consider it a privilege to provide Christian education to the Ellenbrook community and fervently hope to continue this invaluable service for many years to come. As they look ahead, they remain steadfast in their commitment to nurturing excellence, fostering a strong sense of community, and enriching the lives of their students with the timeless values that have defined their institution for two decades.
